I've heard it said before that if you empower a woman you can change the world. I'd like to say, if you ENCOURAGE a woman you better the world!
The Authors and Senator Leroy Comrie
As as women, we are not generally encouraged to exhibit our talents and skills if they are somewhat competitive to our male counter parts- and that leads to the misconception that we as women have no power. We do have power. Ask any little girl between the ages of 2 and 5, ask her what she wants to grow up to be, or even be at that very moment. She says sometimes the impossible like become a mermaid but what follows is her ambition- she wants to rule the seas. That in itself shows that her knowledge of her own power has not yet been dampened- she can become anything she desires and has the conviction to prove it!
The honorees
On May 16th, 2015 I had the pleasure of attending a wonderful celebration of Women Authors in honor of Mother's Day- it was given by a very humble Senator Leroy Comrie. He came up and spoke in honor of these women authors who are inspiration to us all (just learn their stories and you will see why) among which was Delicia B. Davis. Delicia authored a book that targets the issue of bullying, entitled "Dear Diary, The Bullying Won't Stop". She shared an amazing deep poem about the pain of being bullied and it all being invisible to those who love you. It showed the pain of both parties- the victim and the loved ones of the victim. Go buy the book!

What I got from this event is something I will share with you- short and sweet.
I was inspired by the bold pursuits of those I sat at the table with and those at the podium. Your dreams haunt you, scare you, fuel you but they will never materialize if you don't wake up and dive in! I speak to myself here. Go get 'me y'all!!!!
